"Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can't drink anymore."
β€” Accounts from friends present at his deathbed, including photographer David Douglas Duncan

Picasso was hosting a dinner party at his villa in Mougins, France. As the evening wore on, he became ill, and his final words were a wry toast to his guests.

Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and theatre designer. Regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he co-founded Cubism and pioneered collage.

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
"Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth."
"Action is the foundational key to all success."
"I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it."
The destruction of traditional perspective in art
Art as personal expression and political commentary
The relentless need to innovate
Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth

Pablo Picasso died on April 8, 1973, at the age of 91, in Mougins, France. He died of pulmonary edema and heart failure while hosting a dinner party, surrounded by friends.

"The protean genius of Pablo Picasso reshaped the trajectory of modern art, leaving a legacy of fearless innovation and creative audacity."
