The King of Brooklyn Drill
creatorsrapAmerican
"No widely reported final words β€” killed during a violent home invasion. The specific moments before his death were chaotic with no verified statements."
β€” Los Angeles Police Department homicide reports; Rolling Stone investigative features (2020)

On February 19, 2020, Pop Smoke was staying at a rented mansion in the Hollywood Hills when four masked men broke in and shot him multiple times. The home invasion was swift and violent. He was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center but died from his wounds.

Pop Smoke singlehandedly brought Brooklyn drill music to the global stage with his deep, menacing voice and authentic street narratives. His debut mixtape 'Meet the Woo' and its sequel generated massive international hype, making him one of the most promising rising stars in hip-hop before his murder at age 20.

"I want to be the biggest artist coming out of New York."
"Drill is just the sound of the streets. I'm just telling you what's happening."
"They said we wouldn't be nothing, now we're making history."
Loyalty and street credibility above all else
Pride in Brooklyn culture and the drill sound he pioneered
The absolute importance of authenticity in rap music

Fatally shot on February 19, 2020, at age 20, during a home invasion in Los Angeles.

"The explosive force who took Brooklyn drill worldwide, leaving behind a catalog that defined a new era of New York rap."
