Pelé

The King of Football
sportssoccerBrazilian
"Calma, pessoal."
— Reported by his sister Maria Lúcia do Nascimento to G1 Globo (December 2022).

Pelé's sister stated that his final words were a simple plea for calmness, addressed to his family gathered around his bedside at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in São Paulo, just before his passing from colon cancer.

Pelé is widely regarded as the greatest footballer of all time, winning three FIFA World Cups (1958, 1962, 1970) with Brazil. He scored over 650 official goals and popularized the sport globally, transcending athletics to become a cultural icon and a global ambassador for the game.

"The more you practice, the luckier you get."
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing."
"I was born to play football, just like Beethoven was born to write music."
"Football is the only thing that can make the whole world stop."
Football is a tool for unity and bringing joy to the world.
Hard work, discipline, and humility are the foundations of success.
Never stop dreaming and inspiring the next generation.
Love is the most powerful force on and off the pitch.

Pelé passed away on December 29, 2022, at the age of 82, after a long battle with colon cancer. His health had deteriorated following surgery to remove a tumor in 2021, and he spent his final weeks in the hospital surrounded by family.

"Pelé elevated football from a sport to a global art form, forever cementing himself as 'O Rei' (The King) and a symbol of joy and excellence."
