Episode 86

Dr. Hiluluk

The Quack Doctor
animeone-pieceDrum IslandOne Piece
"When do you think people die? ... It’s when... they are forgotten!"
β€” Episode 86, 'Hiriluk's Cherry Blossoms! The Miracle of the Drum Rockies'

Spoken before drinking a poisonous potion and blowing himself up, choosing to die on his own terms.

A former thief turned quack doctor who dedicated his final years to finding a cure for the frozen hearts of the citizens in Drum Island and adopting the orphaned reindeer, Tony Tony Chopper.

"When do you think people die? When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? No. When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom? No! It’s when... they are forgotten!"
"I've had a wonderful life! Thank you, Chopper!"
A doctor's duty is to cure the hearts and spirits of his patients, not just their physical bodies.
A person is never truly dead as long as their ideals and memory live on in the hearts of others.
Miracles can be achieved through unwavering faith and the beauty of nature.

Suffering from terminal heart disease, he drank a poisonous mushroom soup prepared by Chopper (who thought it was a cure). Rather than letting the poison kill him, he blew himself up with dynamite, shouting a final toast to life.

"He left a legacy of blooming cherry blossoms in a frozen land, teaching a young reindeer what it means to be a doctor."
